Hello there, I just went through your review on 7’aum arivu, and I liked it very much, “false consciousness” is the exact word to describe it. This is the first time I read your review and I am very impressed about your reviews on tamil cinema.

    Hi Ranjanik,

Loved your blog, very nicely written! I have never given so much thought when watching some of the movies you have reviewed, I am guessing majority don’t as well you just go their for a time pass and giggles with friends! except for Lagaan ;) But after reading this blog I am surprised at how you look at movies and your thoughts so nicely written. I could go on reading one after other just like a story book! :) :)

What i learnt from reading your blog is, how small scenes in a movie makes a whole lot of difference to an individual. And, I hope someday to learn how to express my thoughts in words like you do, it’s the best thing that can happen to me.

    Keep up the good work!

    Cheers!

I saw your latest release 3 flim, it was not satisfactory the resons are . 1. If dhanush is that concious to write a letter before suicide, y didnt he tell about his problem to shruthi already … It doesnt seem to be a true love 2. A true friendship must help his friend to get out of his problem, senthil must be sayin about ram’s problem atleast to his parents …. He didnt do that, it is not a good friendship i think 3. A good doctor is the 1 who want to take all the steps to cure a patient, when the doctor known dhanush is in that serious condition he should be admittin him without his knowledge itself .. But he didnt do that, you illtreated the medical field … 5. It is a very big blunder that you hav shown suicide is the ultimate result for patient … It is really silly … You forgot patients may also see this flim … I want your reply for this

    Hi,

I chanced upon ur blog… just wanted to let u know that I spent a good couple of hrs enjoying ur writing… It is a treat for an ardent movie lover… :) …

    Regards,

    1. Naan Ee is still playing in Bangalore anymore! Damn! I really wanted to watch it this weekend. Billa I am watching on Sunday. Will file it the same day to latch up some search traffic! :P

    Hi Ranjani,
Came across ur blog accidentally today. I like the way u write. I loved the “Mazhai Kadhali” and “Ayyo, feminist”. The former one was poetic and the latter one was funny. Now, that is called a ‘variety’ of writing. More than your film reviews, am loving your other writings.

:) It happens, right? I know how u feel wen ppl come to ur film review blog and praise the stuff other than the film reviews. It’s like, u cook a lunch with sambar, rasam, kootu, poriyal n all for us and we say nothing abt those but praising the pickle. :) all right. one thing i wanted to say. Along with these films, you can also try recommending (reviewing is upto u :P) ppl some outstanding short films. Believe me, short films are brilliant these days. If you haven’t watched a tamil short film called ‘Dharmam’, please ‘youtube’ it and try. You’ll love it. You cud recommend such films.

        1. Whatte analogy! :)

Also, I’d love to watch short films but you see most films I watch are recommended – by friends or by media. No one recommends short films. But Dharmam I am going to watch! :) Thank you.

  7. I googled ‘Tamil Feminism’ for some ideas on a blog post I’m planning and stumbled across your blog. I just wanted to say: where have you been all my life?! (no homo). Brilliant reviews, although you do make me feel slightly ashamed for being a sheepish lover of Kollywood haha! Hope you keep the great posts coming x

    1. Haha. I am a sheepish lover of Tamil films too. I really am. I love watching Rajnikanth films when I know all that he is doing is perpetuation of the miserable status quo that women are in. I’ve always had that dilemma. Writing critically allows me to reconcile with it. Thanks for your comment. It’s thinks like these that make me want to write more! :)

Hello, just a quick post to say that I really, really am in love with this blog – it feels like I’ve been waiting for this all my life. I’m one of those people that can’t seem to stop watching tamil films, (partly out of loyalty, partly family preferences), but at the same time, I can’t help but want to scream at the screen at the blatant misogyny and objectification. I’m so glad someone is actually critiquing them with a feminist perspective – imo, it’s long overdue.

    Hi Ranjani,
Went through ur blog and had a good time… Thanks for those moment as I felt like understanding the value of writing, what impact does it give something like that… Inspiring me to write upon a blog.. Enoda karuthukalai nanum padhivu seyalam endru kadaitha oru mugavari… Nandri adharku… Lastly I have a request that to write on my “Manasiga Guru” Samudhrakani sir’s casting on NEERPARAVAI.. Very small clippings but was very valuable … Makalidam padhivu padutha vendiya karuthukkal.. Ah kararuthukalai Pena enum asthirathal banam ida vendum Ena kettukoligirane….

    Thanks in advance Ranjini.

Absolutely floored by reading your movie reviews. Still feel at times you have over-kalichufied some traditional concepts of tamil cinema !!! Having said that some of reviews were the mind blowing to say the least !!!! keep blogging :)
